Captain Derek A. Dobogai, 26, formerly of W3858 Horizon Court, Town of Taycheedah, died Wednesday, August 22, 2007, in Iraq as the result of a helicopter accident. He was born May 27, 1981, in Milwaukee, the son of David G. and Lisa L. (Endries) Dobogai. He was a 1999 graduate of Winnebago Lutheran Academy. Derek attended Western Illinois University and graduated in 2003 with a degree in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice. He was commissioned a 2nd Lt. in the United States Army, receiving his Infantry Officer Basic Course at Fort Benning, GA. He was currently with the 25th Infantry Division based out of Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, and was branch detailed to the Special Forces for further assignment. Surviving are his parents of Fond du Lac, two brothers, David Jr. and Daniel, his paternal grandmother, Darlene and step-grandfather, William Acree of Mosinee, and his girlfriend, Tracy Charles of Valley Stream, NY. Aunts, uncles, cousins, and other relatives and friends further survive him. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather and step-grandmother, and maternal grandparents.
Visitation for Captain Derek A. Dobogai will be on Sunday, September 2, 2007, from 1 to 9 pm at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, and on Monday, September 3, 2007, from 9 to 11 am at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church. Funeral services will be at 11 am on Monday at the church. The Rev. Fred Toppe will officiate and burial will be in Rienzi Cemetery.
