Dominic "Nick" J. Poepping, 90, of N7982 Lakeview, Fond du Lac, died Tuesday, September 7, at Vallhaven Nursing Home, Neenah. He was born, August 1, 1920, in Lastrup, MN, the son of Henry and Rose Phlipsen Poepping. On May 18, 1946 he married Geraldine Fisher. Dominic served in the U.S. Army from 1940-1945 where he was wounded three times and received the Purple Heart and various other medals. He sold insurance for over 25 years for Mutual Service, where he received honors in being one of the top 10 agents. Later Dominic worked with the Ed Reigert Insurance Company. He was also a Shaklee distributor. He was a member of Living Truth Fellowship in Fond du Lac. On two occasions he went toTexas and worked with Accelerated Christian Education for 5 ½ years, and later worked with Gospel for Asia for 6 years. Dominic's church activities included bus ministries, usher, greeter, and took trips to the Appalachian area to aid in youth ministries. He enjoyed gardening, camping, outdoors, watching TV, especially westerns, wrestling, and war movies. He loved candy.SURVIVORS: his wife, Geraldine "Gerry" Poepping, Fond du Lac, four children, Shirley (Harv) Millar, Oshkosh, Sandi (Raul) Hernandez, Arlington, TX, Wayne (Donna) Poepping, Fond du Lac, Alan (Julie) Poepping, Fond du Lac, 18 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, one brother, Joe (Elaine) Poepping, three sisters, Loretta (Jim) Scherer, Ione (Jay) Tollefson, Roselyn Bloch, all of Minnesota. His parents, two daughters, Darlene Lauderdale, Joanne Poepping, two sisters; LuAnn and Leona and three brothers; Victor, Walter, and Edmund preceded him in death.
VISITATION: Friends may call on Friday, September 10, 2010, from 5-8 PM at the Uecker-Witt Funeral Home and on Saturday, September 11, 2010, from 9:30 until the time of services at church. FUNERAL: Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM at the Lighthouse Christian Church, 401 S. National Avenue, Fond du Lac with Rev. Joe Hess officiating. Entombment will take place at All Faiths Mausoleum Rienzi Cemetery. Trier-Puddy American Legion Post #75 will conduct Military graveside services.Uecker-Witt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
