Don "Shorty" Norenberg, formerly of rural Fond du Lac, born August 25, 1932 the son of the late Ernest and Francis (Johnson) Norenberg in the Town of Friendship, died June 1, 2006 at St. Agnes Hospital. Don served two years in the United States Army 101st Airborne Division stationed in Alaska. On April 11, 1953 he married Janet Bahr in Fond du Lac. He was a lifelong member of Church of Peace-United Church of Christ and was also a member of the Fond du Lac Eagles Aerie #270. Don was employed as a bricklayer for C.D. Smith and Hutter Construction and later was employed for twenty-two years with Dodge Correctional Institute as Maintenance Supervisor. During his younger years he participated as a boxer in Fond du Lac Golden Gloves. He then for twelve years was a coach for the Fond du Lac YMCA Boxing Club. In 1976 he was picked as the coach to represent Wisconsin in the National Boxing Tournament in Hawaii. He had a love for the outdoors. He was an avid camper and hunter. Don was very proud of his grandchildren and loved every minute he could spend with them!SURIVORS: include his wife of fifty-three years Janet, five children, Linda (Rick) Gehring of Eau Claire, Carol (Ron) Draves of Oakfield, Jeffrey (Melissa) Norenberg of Fond du Lac, Earl (Carla) Norenberg of Oakfield, David (Jami) Norenberg of Fond du Lac, twelve grandchildren, Melissa (Erik) Bennett, Nick Draves (fiancé Kristy), Kristi Gehring, Amanda Draves, Matthew Draves, Jason Gehring, Suzanne Norenberg, Jared Sasada, Alyssa Norenberg, Miranda Norenberg, Amber Norenberg, Lauren Norenberg, step grandchildren, Jeremy, Nicole, Casey, and Kayleigh. He is further survived by siblings, Jerry Norenberg, Eugene Norenberg, Lorraine (Bob) Thill, Sally (Roger) Curtis, and Patsy Lefeber, and special sister in law, Trudy (the late Jack Bahr) Bahr, special friend, Merten Ruddy of Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Dale, Randy, and Earl Norenberg, sisters, Jean Lafrancois, Betty Zwicky, and sisters in law, Betty and Kate Norenberg.
VISITATION: Sunday, June 4, 2006 from 4-8 P.M. at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. FUNERAL: Monday, June 5, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. at Church of Peace-United Church of Christ with the Reverend Sharon Stier officiating. Burial will follow at Ledgeview Memorial Park. Friends may call on Monday at the church from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services. A special thanks to the entire staff at the Behavioral Health Center at St. Agnes Hospital for their loving care for our loved one in his final journey.Uecker-Witt is serving the family.
