Donald I. Cutler

Donald I. "Cowboy" Cutler, 94, formerly of 447 Stow Street, and currently a resident of Lakeshore Estates for the past two years, died Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at the Hospice Home of Hope. He was born April 2, 1918, in Fond du Lac, the son of Henry C. and Letta M. Hills Cutler. Donald was a 1936 graduate of North Fond du Lac High School where he excelled at baseball and basketball, playing on championship teams. On May 3, 1939, he was married to Helen Markheim at Immanuel Trinity Lutheran Church by Rev. John Becker. She preceded him in death on November 25, 2005. Prior to being employed by Giddings & Lewis, Don worked for two years at the Wisconsin Power & Light Company, and two years at Modern Grinder. His career with G & L started in 1940 where he spent 25 years as a heat treatment specialist, later transferring to service and repair sales, retiring in 1983. He was a longtime member of Elks Lodge #57 and the G & L Oldsters. His nickname "Cowboy" came from his love for horses, western stars, and playing western music on his guitar and harmonica. He and his wife were ardent fans of the Green Bay Packers, University of Wisconsin sports, and the Milwaukee Brewers, and loved their time spent golfing. Surviving is a son, Tom (Janet Wilhelms) Cutler of Rhinelander, WI two grandchildren, Sherri (Ford) Willoughby of Oak Park, IL, and Nick (Erin) Cutler of De Pere, WI, and four great-grandchildren, Ruby and Tess Willoughby, and Ella and William Cutler. He is further survived by a sister, Judy (Al) Pedersen of Racine, WI, a sister-in-law, Florence Abbs of North Fond du Lac, and a brother-in-law, Marc (Nancy) Trott of Mayville, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, an infant brother, Ronald, a sister, Beatrice Thompson, sister and brothers-in-law, cousins, and nieces and nephews.



Visitation for Donald I. Cutler will be on Tuesday, June 19, 2012, from 11 AM to 1 PM at Immanuel Trinity Lutheran Church, 20 Wisconsin American Drive, where he was a member his entire adult life. Memorial services will be at 1 PM at the church on Tuesday. The Rev. Shari Routh will officiate and inurnment will follow at Estabrooks Cemetery. The family requests that memorials be directed to either the Hospice Home of Hope, 400 County Road K, Fond du Lac, or Immanuel Trinity Lutheran Church.
