Donald James Hayward, 89, of Fond du Lac, passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at Manor Care, Fond du Lac. He was born in Fond du Lac to Arvil J. and Mae L. Kees Hayward on September 9, 1923. He attended Fond du Lac Senior High School and served as a Machinist Mate in the United States Navy from 1941 "“ 1945, and was stationed in Puerto Rico. On December 26, 1946 he married Elda M. Rose at St. Mary's Parsonage. Donald was employed with Morning Glory Dairy, Huber Paint and Glass, and Lake to Lake Dairy. After retirement, he delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. He enjoyed playing softball into his 40's and helped many youngsters learn to play the game. He was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed football, golf, cars and gardening. He was very devoted to his family and lived life to the fullest.Surviving are his wife, Elda; three sons, Jim (Marianne), Mike (Wanda), Paul (special friend, Lisa Frank); one daughter, Mary Sesing (Tim); nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Eileen Hayward and Valeria Leasa. Donald was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John D. Hayward; brother-in-law, William J. Leasa; grandson, Donald J. Hayward II; and niece, Deborah Hayward.
The visitation will be held from 9:30 "“ 11:00 AM on Friday, July 12, 2013 at Holy Family Church, 271 4th Street Way. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 12, 2013 at Holy Family Church. Entombment will follow at Chapel of the Risen Christ Mausoleum, Calvary Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association and or the Fond du Lac Relay for Life.
