Donald “Boomie” O. Larson, 82, of Fond du Lac, died peacefully Saturday, April 25, 2015 at the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home. He was born September 29, 1932 in Fond du Lac, the son of Orrin and Rose Larson. He graduated from St. Mary Springs High School and then served four years in the U.S. Air Force from 1951-1955. Donald spent 38 years as a conductor on the Soo Line Railroad, retiring in 1992. He was also an advocate for railroad worker’s rights, serving as union steward for many years.
Donald loved living on the west shore of Lake Winnebago and spent most his retirement years catching jumbo perch. He was an avid Wisconsin sports fan, and especially loved watching the Brewers and Packers. He not only liked watching sports, he excelled at them when he played as demonstrated by being a first ballot inductee into the FDL Softball Hall of Fame for his accomplishments in fast pitch softball.
He is survived by four sons, David (Michelle) Larson of Fond du Lac, Jeff (Sheree) Larson of Jackson, John (Angel) Larson of Fond du Lac and Bart (Kathy) Larson of Neenah; four step children, Debbie (Mike) Thorne, Ronnie Zabel, Daryl Zabel and Rhonda Zabel; he was blessed with many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is further survived by one sister, Judy (Gerald) Mueller of Sun Prairie; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Viola; one son, Michael Larson.
The visitation will be held Tuesday, April 28, 2015 from 9:00 – 11:00 am at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home with Deacon Paul Monzel officiating. Entombment will follow at the Garden Mausoleum in Rienzi Cemetery.
The family extends a special thank you to the staff of Tarfa Terrace, Fond du Lac Lutheran Home and Agnesian Hospice Hope for the care given to Donald.
