On Thursday, December 27, 2018 Donald Thomas Jaber (Don, Donny or Midnight to his many friends) completed his amazing life at Hospice Home of Hope. He was a loving husband, father, and grandparent who cared deeply for his family and worked hard to provide a home where EVERYONE was welcome!
He was born in Fond du Lac on December 27, 1933 and was one of the most well known people in Fond du Lac. Don was the face of Service Motors Ford in Fond du Lac for almost 50 years. His love for connecting with people was evident by the successes he had as a sales person and the generational clientele that he accrued over the years. He was the recipient of several Ford Motor Company national sales awards as one of the top Ford sales people in the country.
In his early years, Donny was an incredible athlete in high school where he was a multi-letter award winner in football and baseball. He continued with his baseball career, post high school, with the Fond du Lac Panthers, a minor league team based in Fond du Lac. After the Panthers final season in the summer of 1953, Donny signed with the Milwaukee Braves farm system where he played in Quebec, Eau Claire, and Jacksonville. He decided to walk away from baseball in 1957 and he then took those talents to the softball diamond where he played in front of a packed Kielser Field at Lakeside Park for talented teams like Schlitz of Fondy, Samantha’s, Fondy Station, and St. Peter Lanes just to name a few. He was a power hitting pitcher and traveled to several national tournaments throughout his career. He played into his 50’s and then finally hung up the cleats when his body told him to do so.
Donny was also an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing throughout his life. He was always ready to tell a good story about his experiences and was happy to give away his catches because he knew there would be plenty more on the way.
Don was preceded in death by his mother, Marina; father, George; wife, Colleen (2010); his daughter, Kathy (1988); and his brother, Eugene (2008). He is survived by his daughter, Sue Jaber; sons, Dan (Juli) Jaber and Michael (Heidi) Jaber; as well as grandchildren, Carson (Calyse), Dani (Tony), Amani, and Grayson. Don also had two great grandchildren, Carson and Lincoln.
There will be a visitation for Donny from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation on Thursday at 6:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the Jaber’s have requested that you make a donation in Don’s name to Hospice Home of Hope, 400 County Road K, Fond du Lac, WI 54935.
