Douglas Olson went into peace on January 10, 2015, the result of complications from Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, a Parkinson’s-like disease. He was born in Willmar, MN, in 1942 to Marten and Nevina Olson. From 1964-1967 he served in the U.S. Army where he refined his love of photography while stationed in Korea. He returned to the states and completed a business degree at UW-Oshkosh.
Family life began when he married Dianne and they spent 28 years in marriage raising three daughters. In 2009, he retired from Saputo Foods after 32 years in the dairy industry. “Dougie” filled his free time enjoying golf, auto races, football, and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his siblings Dennis (Jeannette) Olson and Lois Kennis; his daughters Roxanne (Michael) Alvarez, Kristina (Pedro) Arellano, and Naydene Olson; his grandsons Eligh and Malachi; granddaughter Abigail; and his former wife Dianne Smith. He was preceded in death by both of his parents. While his speech was difficult to understand during his last months with us his mind was still very sharp. He truly appreciated every visit and all the calls he received from family and friends. His children give a heartfelt thank you to all of you, and additionally to the Hospice staff and volunteers as they made his life more comfortable and provided him daily companionship.
