Edgar “Eddie” C. Theyerl, 93, died Saturday, July 25, 2015 at St. Mary’s hospital, Mayo Clinic in Minneapolis, MN. Eddie was a lifelong Fond du Lac county resident, born in Johnsburg on November 26, 1921, a son of Nicholas and Louise (Casper) Theyerl. On October 4, 1947, he married Doris “Dorie” Wapp at St. John the Baptist Church in Plymouth.
She preceded him in death on December 13, 1997.
Eddie served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Stationed in the European and Pacific Theater of Operations, he saw combat in multiple campaigns, receiving the Purple Heart for injuries sustained while serving his country. After the war, he was employed by Giddings & Lewis, working in both the machine shop and electrical department, from 1951 until his retirement in 1987. Eddie served as President of Local #1402 of the International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Workers for close to 14 years. It was in this capacity that he represented the workers of Giddings & Lewis. He was a past officer of the Fond du Lac United Ostomy Association and served on their Board of Directors. Eddie was a past president of the former Pacquette Halfway House, which is now called the Berry House. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Holy Family Parish.
Surviving Eddie are his special friend of 17 years, Patricia Staats, six children, Steven (Sue) Theyerl, Catherine (John) Dunton, Suzanne (Jerome) Zellmer, Mark (Diane) Theyerl, Diane (Thomas) Frank and William (Joanne) Theyerl; 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Geraldine Theyerl. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a grandson, Aaron Frank; and his 5 siblings, Dr. Joseph (Lorraine), Orville, Donald (Ellen), Genevieve (Justin) Riley and Lucine (Lawrence) Dellger.
Visitation for Eddie will be held Friday, July 31, 2015 from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, 524 N. Park Ave. in Fond du Lac. A Liturgy of the Word Service will be held at 7:00 PM. Military honors will be presented by the U.S. Army and the American Legion-Trier Puddy Post #75. Cremation will follow the services with private family burial to take place in St. Charles Cemetery in Fond du Lac.
In lieu of flowers a memorial in Edgar’s name will be established.
