Edward A. Chopski, 96, died peacefully of natural causes on September 8, 2012. Born August 1, 1916, to Lithuanian immigrants Thomas and Johanna (nee Juanitis) Chopski in North Fond du Lac, he was a 1934 graduate of North Fond du Lac High School. Ed served in the Civilian Conservation Corp and in the Pacific during WWII aboard the USS Lassen as a member of the US Navy.On May 3, 1944, he married Mary Ann (Bartelt) Chopski. The couple resided on Lakeshore Drive, in North Fond du Lac. In recent years, Ed lived at Walnut Grove Assisted Living and Kindred Hearts Memory Care.Ed worked full time at Giddings and Lewis as a machinist from 1945 to 1978. He was a member of the G & L Oldsters and several polka dance clubs. His hobbies included dogs, pheasant hunting, dancing, and fishing.Ed is survived by two sons Thomas (Jean) of Pocatello, Idaho, and Bill of Albuquerque, New Mexico; his sister Julie Huberty, Fond du Lac; by four granddaughters Shelly, Nicki, Kristi, and Cami; two great grandchildren, Morgan and Gregory; and other loving family.He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and siblings Victor Chopski and Beatrice Frimark.The family would like to extend their gratitude to the nurses, chaplains, caregivers and volunteers from Heartland Hospice and Kindred Heart Memory Care for the excellent care they provided to Ed in his final years of life. We would also like to thank the staff at Walnut Grove Assisted Living and Hospice Advantage.
Services: Visitation will be held Friday from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. The Rev. Edward Sippel will lead a prayer service starting at 8 pm.
