Edward Charles SteffesEdward Charles Steffes, 65, of 934 Michigan Avenue, North Fond du Lac died Tuesday, July 24, 2007 in Rochester, Minnesota from injuries sustained in an auto accident. He was born on August 20, 1941 in Fond du Lac, WI, son of Charles and Veronica (Wettstein) Steffes. On June 19, 1962, he married Susan Laudolff of Fond du Lac, WI. He served in the US Army from 1958 to 1979 and is a decorated Vietnam Veteran. After over 20 years, he retired from the Army and returned to Wisconsin. Ed worked at Bob Wilhelm Paint and Glass, Freiberg Home Improvement, and Miron Construction until retiring. After retirement, he worked part time at Badger Auto. He enjoyed playing cards, pool, fishing and gardening. He was an active member of the Presentation Parish Men's Club in North Fond du Lac. He is survived by his wife Susan (Laudolff) Steffes of North Fond du Lac; children Marguerite (Robert) Chisick of Port Townsend, WA; Edward (Jacqueline) Steffes, Jr. of Woodstock, IL, Susanne Steffes of Redmond, WA, and Michael (Leah) of West Allis, WI.; eight grandchildren; and siblings Judy Beattie of Medinah, IL, Jeanne (Gerald) Van Derra of Fond du Lac, Lois (Kenneth) Kluza of Buffalo Gap, TX, Louis Steffes of Fond du Lac, Eloise (Erhart) Wowerat of Oakfield, Jerome (Beth) Steffes of North Fond du Lac, Joseph (Mary) Steffes of North Fond du Lac, Ann (David) Berg of Malone, and Edith (Roland) Trepanier of Van Dyne. He is further survived by three brothers-in-law; Sylvester (Valarie) Laudolff of Fond du Lac, Richard (Carol) Laudolff of North Fond du Lac, and Jerome (Diane) Laudolff of St. Cloud, three sisters-in-law, Barbara Koerner of Milwaukee, Sandra Creek of Boise, Idaho, and Margaret (John) Class of Betheda, MD. He was preceded in death by his father Charles Steffes and mother Veronica Steffes, his maternal and paternal grandparents, his mother and father-in-law, and a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Trimble.
Visitation for Mr. Edward Steffes, Sr. will be from 4 to 8 pm on Friday, July 27, 2007 at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, and on Saturday, July 28, 2007, from 10 to 11 am at Presentation Church, North Fond du Lac. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 am on Saturday at the church. The Rev. John Simon will officiate and entombment will be in the Chapel of The Risen Christ Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers or plants the family requests that donations be made to the North Fond du Lac Senior Center, Fond du Lac Senior Center, or the Spillman Public Library, North Fond du Lac.
