Edward J. "Jed" Rashid

Edward J. "Jed" Rashid, 76, formerly of 540 B Van Dyne Road, Fond du Lac, died on Monday, September 25, 2006, at the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home where he had been a resident for the past six months. He was born January 11, 1930, in Fond du Lac, the son of Edward A. and Freda W. Hall Rashid. On October 6, 1951, he married Joan C. Phimister in De Pere. Jed was a veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean War. He enjoyed bartending at various establishments in the Fond du Lac area, including Petries Restaurant, the Knights of Columbus, and the Town and Country Golf Course. He was employed all of his life in sales and retired from the Golf Shack in 2004. Jed was a former President of the North Fond du Lac Optimist Club, and was inducted into the Fond du Lac Softball Hall of Fame in 2004. He enjoyed golfing, which included a hole-in-one on #7 at Ledgewood Golf Course, bowling, and sports of all kinds. The New York Yankees drafted Jed in 1949 to play second base. He was a member of the Fond du Lac Rockets, a semi-pro basketball team, which played against the Harlem Globetrotters. Surviving is his wife, Joan, two daughters, Mary (Steven) Oestreich of Fond du Lac, and Pam (Fiancé Tim Baer) Hoey of Oshkosh, four sons, Mark (Wendy) Rashid of Estes Park, CO, Richard (Kathy) Rashid of Fond du Lac, Scott (Susan) Rashid of Estes Park, CO, and Craig (Lisa) Rashid of Fond du Lac, fourteen grandchildren, Jenny, Angie (Fiancé Mike Petersen) Katie, and Liz, Kelly, Lindsey, Tyler, Aaron, Samie, twins Matt and Ryan, Zach, Alice, and Jack. He is further survived by a sister, Marge Kuether of Fond du Lac, and a brother, Joe (Pat) Rashid of Fond du Lac, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. His parents, three brothers, Bob, Floyd, and Jim, and two sisters, Katherine Scholl, and Betty Bushee, preceded him in death.



Visitation for Mr. Edward J. "Jed" Rashid will be on Thursday, September 28, 2006, from 3 to 8 pm at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. Liturgy of The Word for Christian Burial will be at 8 pm at the funeral home on Thursday. Deacon Larry Hughes will officiate and inurnment of cremated remains will be in Ledgeview Memorial Park Cemetery. A memorial has been established in Jed's name.
