Edwin “Eddie” A. Bertram, died on October 17, 2014 at his home in St. Peter, Wisconsin at the age of 90. He was born on August 15, 1924 to Anton and Rose (Schmitz) Bertram in Johnsburg, Wisconsin, the youngest of 11 boys and 2 girls. They were raised in the Johnsburg area where Edwin attended St. John the Baptist Grade School. On October 23, 1948, he married Lyla Keifenheim, his wife of 66 years.
Edwin was engaged in dairy farming on the family homestead for many years before working for the Kohler Company and Mercury Marine of Fond du Lac. He also did some farming for Mr. Karl Kiekhaefer on the ledge near Peebles. He worked for Mercury Marine for 30 years and retired in St. Peter. He was very active in the St. Peter Lions Club, the Knights of Columbus, and the St. Lawrence Seminary Parents’ Guild. His favorite pastimes included fishing, caning chairs, and picking hickory nuts.
Edwin is survived by his wife, Lyla, and their four children; Thomas (wife, Mary), Michael (a priest in the Capuchin Franciscan Order), Janice (husband, Dennis) Stenz, and Patrick (wife, Amy), eight grandchildren; Sara (friend Josh Wilson) Bertram, Elizabeth (husband, Jason) Verboomen, Amy (husband, Josh) Grube, Steve (wife, Andrea) Stenz, Anthony (fiancé, Kelly) Stenz, Robert (fiancé, Sarika) Bertram, Margaret (husband, Reid) Simons, and Joseph Bertram. He was a great-grandfather of nine great-grandchildren and one on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers; Mathias, Frederick, Alex, Christ, Alois, Dennis, Alfonse, Henry, Ambrose, and Orlando, and his two sisters, Frances Vander Grinten and Julia Braun.
FUNERAL INFORMATION
A visitation will take place on Wednesday October 22, 2014 at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM with a prayer vigil to be held at 7:30 PM. Visitation will continue on Thursday October 23, 2014 at Holy Family Church, 241 4th Street Way, from 9:00 AM – 10:30 AM. at 10:30 AM, a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Edwin’s son, Fr. Michael Bertram. Cremation will follow the traditional services.
In lieu of flower memorials, Edwin asked that donations be made to Hospice Home of Hope, St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Milwaukee and the St. Peter Lions club.
