Edwin H. SmithEdwin H. Smith, 85, formerly of 563 S. Main Street, died Friday, October 5, 2007, at Villa Loretto Nursing Home where he had been a resident since August of this year. He was born June 16, 1922, in Fond du Lac, the son of Walter C. and Mary B. Fox Smith. On February 15, 1947, he married Dolores M. Schmidt at St. Joseph's Church. Mr. Smith was formerly employed by Giddings & Lewis for 25 years, and later by the State of Wisconsin Highway Patrol for 10 years, retiring in 1985. He was a veteran of WW II serving in the US Army Air Corps. Edwin enjoyed jewelry making, was an avid reader, liked hiking, and tropical fish, and during the 1950's owned and operated Smith's Aquarium until 1971. His passion was gardening.Surviving is his wife of 60 years, Dolores, five daughters, Christine (Neil) Drake of Mequon, Paula (Alan) Jackowski of Rosendale, Angela (Dan) Dowland of Fond du Lac, Karen Arthurs of New Market, AL, and Julie (Andrew) Detloff of North Fond du Lac; two sons, Tim Smith, Milwaukee and Neil (Marina) Smith of Elm Grove, 19 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren. He is further survived by a brother, Walter Smith and a sister, Marcella Lee, both of Fond du Lac. Preceding him in death were his parents, an infant son, Thomas, a son, Mark, a daughter, Monica Smith, a brother, Robert Smith, and a grandson, Nicholas.



Visitation for Mr. Edwin H. Smith will be on Wednesday, October 10, 2007, from 3 to 5 pm at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. Liturgy of The Word for Christian Burial services will be at 5 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home. Deacon Larry Hughes will officiate and inurnment of cremated remains will be on Thursday. Members of Trier-Puddy American Legion Post #75 Firing Squad will conduct graveside military rites.
