Edwin J. Thomson, 86, was welcomed into his heavenly home on May 4, 2015 while residing at Ivy Manor Assisted Living Center in Campbellsport, WI. Edwin was born on April 24, 1929 to Edwin Joseph and Geneva Caroline (Nast) Thomson in Stradford, WI. At the age of twenty, Edwin joined the United States Army and served as a Sergeant during the Korean War. Edwin suffered combat wounds for which he was awarded the Purple Heart. Edwin was honorably discharged on June 6, 1952.
Edwin was united in marriage to Marilyn Lichtenwald on January 24, 1953. They resided at 449 Amory Street in Fond du Lac for 48 years. They later moved to 519 Luco Road. Edwin and Marilyn were residing at St. Clare Terrace upon her death on November 28, 2006. Edwin was employed by Wisconsin Power and Light for 39 years where he worked as a line clearance foreman. On Saturday, December 8, 2012, Edwin exchanged vows with Fern Zielieke of Campbellsport. They lived as husband and wife until Edwin was admitted to Ivy Manor. Edwin was beloved by his stepchildren: Allen (Patty) Zielieke, Kerry (Ken) Henschel, Kathie (Don) Gitzel and Randy (Barb) Zielieke. They had all joyfully celebrated his 86th birthday at Ivy Manor. Edwin is survived by his wife, Fern and her children, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. He is further survived by a sister, Beverly (Herbert) Krahn of Shawano, two God-children; Linda (Mark) Severson of Webster City, IA and Carrie (Larry) Clark of Shawano, sister-in-law, Lulabelle Thomson of Webster City, IA and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his sister, Irene and his brother, Fred.
Visitation for Edwin will be held Saturday, May 9, 2015 from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, 524 N. Park Ave. in Fond du Lac. Funeral service will follow at 4:00 PM with Rev. Doug Birr officiating. Military honors will be presented. Private family entombment will take place Monday, May 11, 2015 at Shrine of Rest Mausoleum in Fond du Lac.
The Zielieke family wishes to thank Agnesian Hospice Hope, particularly Jean Werner and Lori Quackenboss, for their tender loving care and support. The family is grateful to the staff of Ivy Manor in Campbellsport for the love and care given to Edwin.
