Elfriede Melchert

Elfriede Melchert, 83, passed away Wednesday February 5, 2014 at the Hospice Home of Hope in Fond du Lac. She was born on May 1, 1930 in Hochneukirch, Germany, the daughter of Hermann and Anna (Schiemantovski) Bein. On March 28, 1953, she married Willi Heinz Udo Melchert in Hochneukirch, Germany. Elfriede enjoyed spending her time knitting, doing needlepoint, working outside in her garden and she loved to gamble. Over the years, she and Willi took many trips to Germany visiting family and friends. She was also a long-time member of Church of Peace in Fond du Lac. SURVIVORS:Elfriede is survived by her husband, Willi, one son; Udo (Lori) Melchert of Fond du Lac, one step-granddaughter and two step-great-grandsons. She is further survived by four sisters; Edith Eichhorn of Germany, Erika Altmann and her husband Norbert Fuhrman of Kaukana, Gerda (Gordon) Montey of Ripon and Anneliese (Ernst) Zimmermann of Germany, and many nieces and nephews. Elfriede was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and one brother.



Visitation for Elfriede will be held from 1-3PM on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at Church of Peace, 158 S. Military Rd. in Fond du Lac. A Memorial Service for Elfriede will follow the visitation at 3PM with the Revs. James F.D. Martin and Jennifer C.M. Dawson officiating. Burial will take place at a later date.
