Elizabeth June Benson was born in Perry Point, MD on June 18, 1927, and passed away on October 17, 2018. She married Oscar Benson in Baltimore, MD on October 2, 1948, and they enjoyed 60 years of marriage together until his passing in 2008. She was a dedicated mother and wife, and eventually worked part time at Prange’s for 20+ years. She loved sports, was an athlete on her high school track team, and played golf throughout most of her life. June enjoyed watching football and golf and listening to the Brewer games as often as she could. She also loved playing bridge and gave classes in it. June and Oscar were active members of First Presbyterian Church in Fond du Lac, for which she served as treasurer for a time, as well as members of the Elk’s Club. She also volunteered for Meals on Wheels and St. Agnes Hospital. She spent countless hours volunteering, but Oscar and June’s true passion was hosting and serving others. After raising six kids, June and Oscar began another journey by taking into their home three Japanese brothers as foreign exchange students and hosted them for six years throughout high school. They sponsored a little boy in Colombia, and hosted numerous other exchange students from various countries, as well as the Malik family from Bosnia, helping them become acclimated to life in America.
June is lovingly remembered by her six children, David (Tere) Benson, Michael (Leslie) Benson, Mark (Yu) Benson, Brian (Eva) Benson, Laura (Matthew) Ottusch, and Matthew Benson; her sister, Avis (Larry) Autry. She was blessed with fourteen grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Verna Mackey; her husband, Oscar; and great-granddaughter, Sydney Marie Angle.
The family would like to extend our gratitude to everyone at Silverado Assisted Living in Brookfield for their compassionate care and enriching mom’s life these past four years.
A memorial service will be held at 12 noon, followed by a lunch at the First Presbyterian Church in Fond du Lac, 1225 4th St., on Sunday November 11, 2018 shortly after the regular service (10:30 – 11:30).
Miss you much, Mom, love you more. And give Dad a hug for us, please.
