Elmer G. "Mike" Seffern

Elmer "Mike" G. Seffern, 91, of Van Dyne, died Friday, December 23, 2011 at Fond du Lac Lutheran Home. He was born December 15, 1920 in Van Dyne, the son of William and Esther Disch Seffern. He attended grade school in Van Dyne and graduated in 1938 from North Fond du Lac High School. He farmed all his life on the family homestead near Van Dyne. During high school he took a short course at the Fond du Lac Vocational School in sign lettering. He lettered trucks and signs for many local businesses throughout his life. On October 29, 1944 he married Evelyn Schaetzel at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac. Mike was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Van Dyne. He held several positions in his church and also served on the WLA Academy Board. Mike was an active and honorary member of the Van Dyne Fire Department. He was an active member of 49 years, while serving 47 years as a secretary. He also lettered many of the fire trucks years ago.SURVIVORS: his wife, Evelyn Seffern, Van Dyne; two children, Douglas (Mary Beth) Seffern, Van Dyne and Kathleen (Norbert, Jr.) Hoerth, Rosendale; five grandchildren, Michael (Stacy) Seffern, Morton, IL, Kristin (special friend, Scott Verdun) Seffern, Oak Creek, Mark Seffern, Milwaukee, Angela (Kevin) Engel, Rosendale, Martin (special friend, Desiree Oakley) Hoerth, Minneapolis, MN; five great grandchildren, Haley, Autumn, and Eva Engel, Jacob and Caden Seffern. He is further survived by one brother, Herbert (Jeanette) Seffern, Fond du Lac; many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers-in-law and two nephews.



VISITATION: will be from 4 "“ 8 PM on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home and again on Thursday from 10 "“ 11AM at the church. The funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, December 29, 2011 at Zion Lutheran Church, Van Dyne, with Rev. Lester Fritz officiating. Cremation will follow the traditional services.Memorials are appreciated to Zion Lutheran Church or Van Dyne Volunteer Fire Department.Uecker-Witt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
