Elsie M. Conant

Elsie M. Conant, age 89, of Ripon, died on Sunday, May14, 2023, at St. Francis Home in Fond du Lac, WI, while in the care of SSM Hospice. She was born on March 15, 1934, in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of Frederick D. Long and Elsie M. (Volinsky) Cappiello. Elsie married Roy F. Conant of Beloit, WI, on March 15, 1958, in Brooklyn, NY (Kings County).


Elsie worked as a secretary for the City of Lake Geneva until she injured herself in a bad fall and was unable to work further (around 1970). She was a housewife, mother, and eventually a business partner with her husband (Roy Conant Plumbing) after moving to Land O’Lakes, WI, 1978. That was her home for over 40 years. She was very active in her church, Ely Memorial Church (United Church of Christ), in various roles that whole time. Recently (1.5 years ago) she moved closer to her son in Ripon, WI.


She is survived by her son, Dave (Sue) Conant of Ripon, WI; her daughter, Jennie Conant of Thorp, WI; her granddaughter, Megan Conant of Split, Croatia; her grandson, Jacob Conant Milwaukee, WI; her nephew, Fred (Jennifer) D. Long of Beloit, WI; and many other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Conant; her father, Frederick Long; her mother, Elsie Cappiello; her sisters, Dorothy Downes, Marie (Edward) Peterson, and Florence (Clifford) Way; her brother, Frederick Long.


Cremation has taken place. Private family graveside service will take place at Roselawn Memory Gardens in Lake Geneva by her husband Roy. A memorial service will take place at a later date at Elsie’s church in Land O’ Lakes.
