Emil D. Livieri, age 90, a lifelong resident of North Fond du Lac, died Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at Harbor Haven Health & Rehabilitation Center, where he was recovering from a fall. He was born in North Fond du Lac on March 28, 1926 to Peter and Francis (Seta) Livieri. On July 23, 1949, Emil married Elizabeth “Betty” Kremer at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. After 64 years of marriage, she preceded him in death on May 9, 2013.
Emil served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, being honorably discharged with the rank of Seaman 1st Class. Emil was aboard the destroyer USS Atlanta as a Gunner’s Mate (GM) from her shakedown cruise in the Atlantic, to her transit through the Panama Canal and throughout the island campaigns of the South Pacific Theatre. He was aboard the Atlanta when she arrived in Tokyo Bay following the Japanese surrender.
Emil’s legacy will be that of his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom he loved very much. His skill at woodworking and the hours he spent on projects in his garage will not soon be forgotten; family and friends would visit him daily as he worked. Emil was known for his beautiful craftsmanship and an ability to fix almost anything. For over 30 years, Emil was a Tile Setter for Capelle Bros. and Diedrich Co.
The grandchildren will especially miss his stories and words of wisdom. His quiet nature and witty personality will be sadly missed by all. He touched so many lives and was loved by everyone.
Surviving Emil are his four children, Thomas (Pamela) of North Fond du Lac, Laura (John) Duley of Hudson, Wis., Lynn Grahn of Fond du Lac and Todd (Kathy) of Van Dyne; ten grandchildren, Shaun Livieri (special friend, Becky), Shane Livieri, Ryan (Angie) Duley, Nicholas (Megan) Duley, Colleene Duley (special friend, Eddie), Scott Costello, Eric Costello (special friend, Mary), Nicole Grahn, Christopher Livieri (special friend, Meghan) and Corey Livieri (Fiancée, Julie); two great-grandsons, Nolan and Knox Duley; nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; three brothers, James, Ed, and Joseph; and two sisters, Lena Biermann and Ersilia Heschke.
Visitation for Emil will be held at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home on Friday, August 19, 2016 from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM and again on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in North Fond du Lac from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM followed by entombment in Shrine of Rest Mausoleum, Ledgeview Memorial Park Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by the American Legion, Trier-Puddy Post #75.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Harbor Haven for their patience, kindness and the special care given to dad during his stay. It meant so much to know he was treated with so much love and respect.
