Erich Wowerat, 83, of Fond du Lac, died Thursday, December 14, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born February 25, 1934 in Wetterau, East Prussia, formerly East Germany, the son of Otto and Maria Schauksdat Wowerat. On September 28, 1963 he married Klara Bilau in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada. Erich along with his wife, owned and operated Eric’s Pastry Shop in Fond du Lac for 35 years retiring in January of 2000. He enjoyed cross country skiing in Europe, Austria, Italy, and Germany. He participated in many cross country races in the United States where he received many medals. Erich also enjoyed time at the cottage, boating, and collected coins and beer steins.
He is survived by his wife, Klara; three children, Diana (Willard) Jewson of Janesville, Friedericke Marshell of Milwaukee, and Erhardt (Eloise) Wowerat of Oakfield; four grandchildren, James and Paul Jewson, Miana and Amara Marshell; three step grandchildren, David (Shannon) Lebekken, Christopher (Sumayyah) Lebekken, and Aimee (Jeremy) Hostettler; nine step great grandchildren; two sisters in Germany, Erika and Giesela; cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and one sister.
The visitation will be held from 1:00 – 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church with Rev. Michael Zuberbier officiating. Cremation will follow the traditional services.
