Ervin F. Giese, 89, a resident of the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home died Monday, January 26, 2009, at his residence. He was born September 19, 1919, in Theresa, the son of Robert and Amanda Bartelt Giese. Ervin married LaVerne Sterr on May 9, 1942, at St. Mary's Church in Lomira, and she preceded him in death on December 19, 1995. He served in the US Army during WWII in Oklahoma and Alaska. He was a member of Trier-Puddy American Post #75. Ervin was formerly employed by Hutter Construction Co. for 37 years, retiring in 1981. He was a part-time bartender at Brickles Tavern and Odette's Bar. He enjoyed bowling, gambling, playing all kinds of sports.Survivors include nine sons, Leo and his wife Colleen of West Palm Beach, Fla., Robert and his wife Maureen of Brown Deer, Dennis and his wife Mary Beth, Gerald and his wife Mary, Peter and his wife Cindi, all of Fond du Lac, David and his wife Becky of Waupun, James of Fond du Lac, Joseph and his wife Lupe of Santa Ana CA, and Mark and his wife Maria of Hacienda Heights, CA; four daughters, Jane Novak and her husband Herman, and Betty Goldapske and her husband Larry, Donna Heinze and her husband Dale "Gator", all of Fond du Lac, and Tess Grimes and her husband Brian of Adell, WI; 37 grandchildren, and 33 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by three sisters-in-law, Lucille Kuen and Hilda Sterr, both of Brownsville, WI, and Cyrena Sterr of Knowles, WI, and other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, his loving wife of 53 years, a daughter, Sandra Tindall, and a son, Donald.
Visitation for Mr. Ervin F. Giese will be on Friday, January 30, 2009, from 4 to 8 pm at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. A Liturgy of the Word for Christian Burial service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, January 31st at the funeral home. Deacon Larry Hughes will officiate and burial will be in Ledgeview Memorial Park Cemetery. Members of Trier-Puddy American Legion Post #75 Firing Squad will render graveside military honors.
