Esther Evelyn Haskins, age 102, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2015.
She was born on January 22, 1913 to the late Fred & Pauline (Weis) Lentz in Berlin, WI. She grew up on their family farm and attended a one-room school house, Lilac Hill.
On July 4, 1936 she married Wendell Haskins on the front lawn of her parent’s farm in Berlin. They were blessed with 70 wonderful years of marriage. She received a Nursing Diploma from Berlin Normal School in 1928 and prior to marriage did home nursing care. Esther was very involved in church, playing piano and teaching Sunday School. Her deep love for children was exemplified by her and Wendell caring for around 30 foster children. She taught piano lessons to numerous children and enjoyed gardening and sewing. She had a very sweet and caring spirit that touched so many lives through the hospitality that she gave in her home and through the words of encouragement she offered. She was a member of Cornerstone Worship Center of Fond du Lac.
She is survived by her sons-in-law, Gary Wilke of Shawano, Daniel Wilke of Fond du Lac; grandchildren, Heather Wilke of Shawano, Jason (Angie) Wilke of Sheboygan Falls, and Steven Wilke of Sheboygan Falls; great grandchildren, Lilyanah, Nathaniel and Isaac; a sister-in-law, Lucille Lunderberg of Minnesota; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wendell; two daughters, Barbara and Marilyn; one brother, Harold in infancy; one sister, Alice Urshan.
The visitation will be held Monday, February 16, 2015 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm at Cornerstone Worship Center, 154 West McWilliams Street, Fond du Lac.
The funeral service will be at 4:00 pm Monday, February 16, 2014 at Cornerstone Worship Center with Rev. Dale Pace officiating. Entombment will be held in Shrine of Rest Mausoleum, Ledgeview Memorial Park.
The family would like to express their thanks to the staff and nurses of Heartland Hospice for the wonderful care they gave Esther during her last three weeks.
A memorial fund has been established with the Wisconsin District United Pentecostal Church to sponsor young children to attend the summer Junior Camp at the District Campgrounds in Shawano, WI.
