Eugene F. "Gene" Leonard

Eugene “Gene” F. Leonard, 75, of Fond du Lac, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2015, after a lengthy illness. He was born June 13, 1939, and grew up on a farm in Dotyville, WI. Gene married Mary Ann Nettekoven on September 5, 1959 at St. Joseph’s Church in Fond du Lac. Gene proudly served in the U.S. Army. He was employed at International Paper Company for 40 years, retiring as Maintenance Supervisor.



Gene was known for his woodworking craftsmanship, making furniture for his home as well as for his daughters and grandchildren. He built a Fair Trade display cart for Holy Family parish. He enjoyed gardening, golf, pheasant-hunting and travel.



Gene and Mary Ann celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in September with their daughters and family. Gene is survived by his wife, Mary Ann, their five daughters: Nancy (JD) Sedlar of Racine, Sue (Gerard) Ruedinger of Franklin, Donna (Gary) Kamphuis of Maple Grove MN, Patty (Mike Gulbraa) Leonard of South Jordan, UT, and Kathy Leonard of Oshkosh, ten grandchildren: Michael, Sarah, and Cpl Matthew Sedlar; Dr. Erin (Kevin) Siegel, Laura and Hannah Ruedinger, Ryan and Shawn Kamphuis, and Natalie and Stephanie Gulbraa, and one great-grandchild, Julia Siegel.



Gene is also survived by his siblings: Alex (Carol), JoAnn Schrage, Mary (Ken) Braun, and Ed (Debbie); sister-in-law Eileen Borndal, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Kathryn, in-laws Cecilia and Lawrence Nettekoven, and brother-in-law, Paul Schrage.



A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Church on Monday, April 20, 2015 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM at church. Cremation has taken place and burial will occur at a later date.



A memorial has been established in Gene’s name.
