Eugene F. "Geno" Scudella

December 22, 1929 — February 3, 2015

Geno passed away at the Hospice Home of Hope at the age of 85 on Tuesday, February 3, 2015. Eugene "Geno" Scudella was born to Battista & Maria Maino Scudella on December 22, 1929 in Eden, WI. After graduating from St. Lawrence Seminary in June of 1949, Geno spent many enjoyable years operating the Eden Hotel with his parents. Geno served with the 432nd Military Government Company from 1952 until 1956 at Camp McCoy. On January 21, 1956 he married Helen Jane (nee Hoffmann) Salaja at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Campbellsport. They raised five children Gerry (Sandy), Gina (Alan) Frank, Guy (Sarah), Gavin (Chris) and Gwen (Greg) Schwantes. Their family also included five sons, Greg, Gary, Grant, Geoff, and George from her previous husband, Sava (Sam) Salaja, who died in 1953. Jane died on April 10, 1990. Geno owned and operated several businesses, including the Eden Hotel, Club 18 and King Pin Lanes in Campbellsport, and Geno's Rathskeller in Fond du Lac, where he introduced live music to the area in the 1960's. He was a member of the Fond du Lac County Tavern League, Lions Club, and was politically active as a candidate for Fond du Lac County Sheriff and State Senate Offices. Geno worked for three different railroads: Chicago & Northwestern, Soo Line, and Wisconsin Central. After his retirement, he worked for the Fond du Lac Express delivery service. Geno was an avid sports fan and loved baseball and football. He followed the Milwaukee Braves, Brewers, as well as the Green Bay Packers. In addition he enjoyed everything Las Vegas including the shows and the excitement of gambling. On September 28, 1991, he married Helen "Elena" Christus (nee Pothas) at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Fond du Lac. Elena died on December 20, 2006.

Survivors include his special friend, Gert Laszewski, his children,

Gerry (Sandy) Scudella, Gina Frank (special friend Jim Kaiser), Gavin (Chris) Scudella and Gwen (Greg) Schwantes. His stepsons, Gary, Grant (special friend Cindy), Geoff, and George Salaja, Dan and Mike Christus, his sister Mary (Ken) Braatz-Laufer, his sisters-in-law, Ruth (Bob) Hayward, Ann Hale, and Jane Hoffmann, his brothers-in-law, Mathias (Helena) Hoffmann and Tom Alioto, and his daughter-in-law, Sarah Werbelow-Scudella. He is further survived by his grandchildren, Heather (Jim) Brunet, Melanie (Bill) Ledger, Marisa Salaja (fiance Jason Ilgen), Rachel (Nick) Venturini, Dan (Tammy) Salaja, Hannah and Sava "Sam" Salaja, Jessica (Craig) Michels, Taylor Frank (special friend Teal), Delaney and Noah Scudella, Jane Schwantes (special friend Brandon) and Malinda Schwantes. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.



He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Guy Scudella, his sisters, Flora Maurer and Norma Witkowski, his brother, Robert "Scud", his son-in-law, Alan G. Frank, his stepson, Greg Salaja, his in-laws, Dr. Leo and Mary (Brost) Hoffmann, his step mother-in-law, Malinda (Haack) Hoffmann, his in-laws, Nick and Athanasia Koumoundouros Pothas, his brothers-in-law Art Hoffmann, Dr. Phil Hoffmann, Cliff Hale, Carl Witkowski, Robert Maurer, Harold Braatz, George Pothas, Gustave Pothas, Sava Barba, Ken Bindert, his sisters-in-law Gloria Hoffmann, Sally Williams, Louise Hoffmann, his step daughter-in-law, Mary Christus, and stepson, Nick Christus.



Visitation for Eugene “Geno” Scudella will be from 9:00-10:45 AM on Saturday February 7, 2015 at Church of the Presentation, 705 Michigan Avenue, North Fond du Lac. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM. Rev. Edward Sippel will officiate and burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Eden. Uecker-Witt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
