Eugene "Gene" Schaefer

June 6, 1928 — February 14, 2014

Eugene "Gene" E. Schaefer, age 85, died early Friday morning, February 14, 2014 at the Hospice Home of Hope. Gene was born June 6, 1928 to the late Leo and Anna Schaefer (nee Kuechler). Gene wore many hats: Holy Name Society president St. Mary's Catholic Church, Mayville; Wisconsin Tool & Die worker, Mayville, WI; owned and operated White Bell Orchards with his wife, Corinne, in Lomira, WI; electrician for Zuehlke TV & Electric, Lomira, WI; volunteer firefighter in the Village of Lomira, WI; member of the Board of the Directors for the Wisconsin Fruit Growers Association; he was a Winpower generator salesman in Lomira, WI; part-time maintenance man with Cole Amoco, Lomira, WI; member of the St. Lawrence Seminary Parents Guild in which he held numerous offices that included several terms as president; 3rd Degree member of Knights of Columbus Council 664.Gene is survived by his wife of nine years, Mary Schaefer (Simon), his sons; Michael, Tom (Bonnie), Dan (Cindy), Stan (Sharon), his daughter; Cynthia (Mike) Moschea. He is also survived by his step-children; Tricia (Dave) Braun, Mark (Kelly) Simon, Tim Simon, Pam (RJ) Hinkle, fourteen grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. Gene also leaves behind his sisters; Cathy (Curt) Rauch and Geraldine (Joe) Feucht, his sisters-in-law; Sylvia, Marlene, Mary Ann Schaefer, Pauline Ronning, Delores Newmeyer, and Betty (Floyd) Rhode; his brothers-in-law; Tom (Karen), Dan (Mary) and George (Linda) Schraufnagel and many nieces, nephews, and friends.He was preceded in death by his first wife of fifty-one years, Corinne (Becker) in 2003, his sister Myrtle and brothers Erwin, Earl, Charlie, Gerald, Stuart Schaefer, sisters and brothers-in-law; Marie and Don Hammer and Joyce and Richard Ptaschinski.The family would like to thank their family and friends along with the doctors and nurses of Agnesian Healthcare who cared for Gene through his final days. A special thank you to the staff and volunteers of the Hospice Home of Hope in Fond du Lac.



A visitation for Gene will be held Monday, February 17, 2014 from 2:30-6:00 P.M. at Holy Family Church, 271 4th St. Way, in Fond du Lac. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow the visitation at 6:30 P.M. with Fr. Mike Wild presiding. Private entombment services will take place at a later date at Chapel of the Risen Christ Mausoleum in Fond du Lac.
