Eugenia M. “Jean” Arthurs, 90, of Fond du Lac, WI, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 30, 2015 at the Hospice Home of Hope. She was born December 7, 1924 in the Village of North Fond du Lac, the only daughter of Hugo and Edna (Kuehnemann) Schulz.
On September 28, 1946, Jean married Douglas G. Arthurs of Neshkoro, Wis., at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in North Fond du Lac. It was the same day as her parent’s 25th wedding anniversary. Together, Jean and Douglas shared 55 years together before his passing on July 19, 2002.
Jean worked for the North Fond du Lac school system for 20 years as a bookkeeper and also volunteered at St. Agnes Hospital for 19 years where she donated over 5,000 hours. She was an original member of “Women’s Touch”, a local homemakers association, which was founded in 1954. Jean was a member of Hope Lutheran Church for over 50 years.
She is survived by 2 sons; Gordon (Marie) of Macon, GA, Steven (Joni) of Milwaukee, WI; 1 daughter, Kathleen (Kenneth) Wanek of Appleton, WI; 6 grandchildren, Angela (Jason) Lee, Adam (Charisse) Arthurs, Christina Pettry, Joshua (Lesley-Anne) Arthurs, Rebekah and David Arthurs; 5 great-grandchildren, Jessica May Pettry, Alexander Hugo Arthurs, Adalyn Olivia Arthurs, Douglas Lee Arthurs and Colton Samuel Arthurs; and a sister-in-law, Helen Schulz. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her brother, Leroy Schulz.
A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday, September 4, 2015 at Hope Lutheran Church, 260 Vincent St. in Fond du Lac with Pastor Steven Huff officiating. Visitation will began at 11:00 AM and continue until the time of service. Private family burial will follow in Ledgeview Memorial Park Cemetery, N6250 County Road K in Fond du Lac.
