Forrest "Burt" Sharp

Forrest "Burt" Sharp, age 82, of Oakfield, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at his home in Oakfield. Burt was born in Cedar Rapids, IA the son of Orvis and Susie (Earl) Sharp on January 14, 1926.During his life, Burt was active in the U.S. Navy, serving in WWII and the Korean War from 1943-1952. He served on the USS Piedmont, USS Floyds Bay, USS Curtis, and the USS Norton Sound. He also was a Torpedoman Instructor at Great Lakes Naval Training Center. He received numerous military awards/medals during his years in the military.During his lifetime Burt worked on the railroad, on the ore docks, and worked at a State Institution for the mentally impaired. The majority of his career he was a businessman, involved primarily in the cemetery business. He also owned cemeteries in several states and eventually retired in 1990. He moved to Wisconsin from Pocahontas, AR in 1993, to be closer to his children. Burt was married several times through the years; he had three children from his first marriage to Darlene. Janet Williams and Joyce Burnal both deceased. His first son, John (Penny) McGrew currently reside in California.He married Dolores Waasdorp in 1951. Their marriage lasted thirty-four years during which time they had five children together, Robert (Sharon) Sharp, Fond du Lac, Linda (Bill) Phillips, Oakfield, Richard (Diane) Sharp, Fond du Lac, Jana (David) Wiese, Oakfield, Raymond (Sue) Sharp, Fond du Lac.He married Dorothy Black in 1985 and she moved with him to Wisconsin in 1993.Burt loved golf, gardening, woodworking, and hunting with his sons. He also was an avid bowler in his younger years. During his lifetime he saw many things and went to many places. One of the highlights of his travels was when he hunted Jaguar in South America in the early 60's. He enjoyed trips to Vegas on occasion and completed his last trip there in 2005 with his daughters. Burt was a history buff and enjoyed anything to do with the news, specifically about politics. He enjoyed crossword puzzles on a regular basis, and found it difficult to find ones that were challenging enough.Burt had twenty-four grandchildren, and thirty great-grandchildren. Burt was preceded in death by his parents, wives, Dolores and Dorothy, his daughters, Janet and Joyce, siblings, Jack, Leo, Owen, Francis, Josephine, Thelda, and great granddaughter, Britany.



VISITATION: Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, 524 N. Park Ave, from 4-6 P.M. with a prayer service led by the Reverend Ron Franklin, Burt's nephew from Iowa, immediately following the visitation. Burial will be at Avoca Cemetery in Oakfield on Wednesday, September 17 at 10:00 A.M.The family would like to extend heartfelt appreciation to Heartland Hospice and Comfort Keepers for all they did to make our Dad's final days comfortable.
