Frances M. (Schneider) Stubbe, 87 died Thursday, August 24, 2017 at the St. Francis Home in Fond du Lac. She was born at home in the Town of Forest (Mt. Calvary) on December 4, 1929, a daughter of Victor and Frances (Halfmann) Schneider. On June 20, 1953, Frances married Willard J. Stubbe at St. Peter's Church in St. Peter. He preceded her in death on February 12, 1987.
Frances (Butch), Mom, and most recently; Granny Franny, had a love for gardening and preserving what was grown. Many, many quarts of tomatoes, pickles and anything else fresh from the garden went promptly into a jar or the freezer. Like peas in a pod, these characteristics will carry on, far into future generations. The gift of sharing that season’s harvest is one of the family favorites at Christmas. Who’s bringing what treat – salsa, tomato juice, dilly beans, pickles, jams, jellies and let’s not forget the homemade carmel, it wouldn’t be Christmas without homemade carmel. She was also an avid bowler, collecting many trophies, plaques and prizes. Frances enjoyed the outdoors – golfing, gardening, sitting on the porch reading a book and listening to the birds. Another past time that can’t be overlooked, playing cards. When the weather didn’t allow for being outside, playing solitaire or teaching the next generation the fine skill of playing sheepshead could be witnessed at the dining room table or the kitchen counter. A deck of cards is never too far away.
