Franz E. Reiher

Franz E. Reiher, 93, died Saturday, May 05, 2007, at the home of his son and daughter-in-law at N7232 Winnebago Drive, Town of Fond du Lac. He was born July 3, 1913, in Konigsburg, East Prussia, Germany, the son of Gustav and Marie Weiss Reiher. On April 16, 1949, he married Gertrud Marks in Jarplund, Germany. She preceded him in death on August 12, 2006. Fred Rueping Leather Company formerly employed Mr. Reiher for 22 years. Franz was a veteran of WW II flying with the German Luftwaffe. He was shot down five times while flying over the English Channel. He also served under Field Marshall Erwin Rommel in North Africa. He enjoyed reading, history, playing chess and cards, a good beer or brandy, and a good joke.Surviving is a son, Werner (Pat) Reiher of Fond du Lac, two granddaughters, Nicole (Denver) Gilliand of Minneapolis, MN, and Heidi Reiher of Honolulu, HI; three great-grandchildren, Hailee, Mason, and Kiya Gilliand. His parents, wife, five brothers, and two sisters preceded him in death.



Visitation for Mr. Franz E. Reiher will be on Wednesday, May 9, 2007, from noon to 2 pm at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Wednesday at 2 pm at the funeral home, and entombment will be in the Shrine of Rest Mausoleum, Ledgeview Memorial Park Cemetery.
