Frederick "Fred" T. Schulze, 83, of Fond du Lac, passed away Saturday, February 8, 2014 at St. Agnes Hospital surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was born in Fond du Lac June 24, 1930, the son of Fred and Anna (Mannigan) Schulze. On June 16, 1951, Fred married Virginia "Ginger" Stanley at Immanuel Trinity Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac. Fred was a hardworker and devoted family man. He spent 42 years working for the Fond du Lac County Highway Department doing whatever was required; running the oil layer in summer and operating the snowplows in the winter. When he wasn't at work, he was constantly working with his hands. Whether woodworking or crafting model ships, he did not tire. In addition, he rode his bicycle 8 miles a day, every day, til the age of 83. Fred took great pride in his great-grandsons. He taught Andrew how to play baseball and when Fred finally beat him, Andrew locked him out of the house and told everyone not to answer the door; that it was nobody! One summer, he spent every morning teaching Joey how to fish. And his time with Thomas was spent walking, playing hockey and on the floor with model trains.Fred will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 62 years, Ginger. He also leaves behind two children; Cindy (Larry) VanErt of Greendale, WI and Jay (Marvel) Schulze of Loveland, CO, one granddaughter, Andrea (Mike) Schmitz of Van Dyne and one step-granddaughter, Bailey O'Connor of Loveland, CO, three great-grandsons; Andrew, Joey and Thomas Schmitz. He is also survived by a sister, Marjorie Hefter of Fond du Lac, a brother, Robert, of Texas, two brothers-in-law; John (Mary) Stanley of Ponca City, OK and Tom (Mitzi) Stanley of Claremore, OK, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, six siblings; George, James, Vivian, Elaine, Betty and Pauline, and his mother and father-in-law, John and Clara Stanley.
A Celebration of Fred's life will be held Thursday, February 13, 2014 from 4-7 PM at the Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, 524 N. Park Ave., Fond du Lac. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Fred's name. The family would specifically like to thank Doug Derksen of the Agnesian ICU team and the rest of the staff that did such a tremendous job in serving Fred and his family.
