Frovin A. "Bud" BirkhauserFrovin A. "Bud" Birkhauser, 88, of St. Francis Terrace, Fond du Lac, died at St. Francis Home on Wednesday, September 13, 2006. He was born June 15, 1918, in Mt. Calvary, WI, the son of Adolph and Margaret Koenigs Birkhauser. On June 21, 1941, he married Bernice Julka at St. John the Baptist Church in Johnsburg. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2006. Mr. Birkhauser was a member of Holy Family Parish-St. Joseph's Church. He was a veteran of WW II, serving in the US Army Air Force for three years. He was employed by the Hutter Construction Company of Fond du Lac for 43 years as Plant and Equipment manager, and was also Safety Director of the company. He was also past chairman and member of the Wisconsin Chapter of the Associated General Contractors Safety Committee. Mr. Birkhauser was chairman of the Fond du Lac Carpenter Joint Apprenticeship Committee for 38 years and was the recipient of its distinguished service award. He was a 3rd Degree "Life" member of Knights of Columbus Council #664. Mr. Birkhauser was a 30-year member of the Boy Scouts of America, serving as chairman of the Cub Pack and Scout Troop committees of St. Josephs Church, and was a recipient of the adult award for scouting. Bud was a member of the Milwaukee Diocesan Committee of Catholic Scouting and received its highest award, "The St. George Medal" for his dedication to Catholic Scouting. Mr. Birkhauser served the Little League Baseball Program of Fond du Lac as a member and manager for 14 years. He was active in organizing the first "Slow Pitch Softball League" in Fond du Lac and sponsored teams through Hutter Construction for many years. He was an avid bowler for many years and sponsored teams in the Business Men's and Knights of Columbus leagues during this time. He was a 50-year member and Past Commander of Abler-Engel American Legion Post #454 of Mt. Calvary. Mr. Birkhauser was a member and past President of the Board of Directors for 35 years of the Mt. Calvary Feed and Building Supply Company of Mt. Calvary. He enjoyed sports; especially golfing in his later years, dancing, bowling, playing cards, and was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Green Bay Packers, but most of all, he enjoyed celebrations with his family.



Surviving is his wife, Bernice, three daughters, Sandra Birkhauser of Houston, TX, Mary Beth (Gene) Arnold of Fond du Lac, Suzanne (Special Friend David) Birkhauser of Sun Prairie, WI, four sons, Robert (Ruth) Birkhauser of Nekoosa, WI, David (Terri) Birkhauser of Hagerstown, MD, Daniel (Cathy) Birkhauser of Indianapolis, IN, and John (Sharon) Birkhauser of Lake Forest, IL.He is further survived by 16 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, a brother, Larry (Frances) Birkhauser of Albuquerque, NM, and two sisters, Rosetta (Ambrose) Entringer of West Bend, WI, and Verna (Clem) Goeser of St. Cloud, WI. His parents, a brother, Ralph, and two sisters, Barbara Morgen and Estelle Bittner, preceded him in death. Visitation for Mr. Frovin A. "Bud" Birkhauser will be on Sunday, September 17, 2006, from 4 to 8 pm at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, and on Monday, from 12:30 to 2 pm at St. Francis Chapel, 33 Everett Street, Fond du Lac. Liturgy of Christian Burial will be at 2 pm at St. Francis Chapel. The Rev. Joe Wolf O.F.M. CAP. will officiate and entombment will be in Chapel of The Risen Christ Mausoleum, Calvary Cemetery.
