Galen Lloyd Comeaux, 83, of W6993 Hwy 23, of Fond du Lac, passed away peacefully with family at his side on July 10, 2008, at the Hospice Home of Hope. Galen was born on December 11, 1924, in Medford, WI, the son of Lloyd and Hermine Hartwig Comeaux. He graduated from Colby High School in 1942. Galen entered the US Army in 1943, served in the Pacific Theater during WW II, and was honorably discharged in 1946. On May 17, 1947, he married Joyce Anita Helm. They were married for 47 years and 4 months prior to her passing in September 1994. Galen retired from Wisconsin Bell Telephone Company on 15 April 1986, having served them for 39 years. Before being promoted to management, he was an active union member serving as President of his local union for 2 years. Galen belonged to the Telephone Pioneer Club. He helped build two cottages for the handicapped, plus a picnic area for the VFW north of Necedah, WI. Other activities over the years included the boy scouts, cub scouts, speed skating, little league baseball, dart ball, golfing, and the Fond du Lac Boat Club. He also served as a Forest Mall Santa for over 15 years. He was an active member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie #270, and American Legion Post #75. Galen also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, boating, and sheepshead with his family. Galen is survived by 8 children; Sandra (Leon) Groeschl of North Fond du Lac, Dennis (fiancée' Rose Wendt) Comeaux of Fond du Lac, Kathryn (David) Hinn of Fond du Lac, Marsha (Jerome) Schmitz of North Fond du Lac, Gayle (Michael) Peters of Fond du Lac, Randall (Sharon) Comeaux of Fond du Lac, Laurie (Larry) Ball of North Fond du Lac; Scott (Andrea) Comeaux of Fond du Lac along with 21 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, nine step great-grandchildren, and one step great-great-grandson, a brother, Keith (Ruth) Comeaux of Marinette, WI, and special friend LaVern Sabel of Fond du Lac. Galen was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce, a grandson, Christopher Groeschl, a great-grandson, Adam Comeaux, two sisters, June Lloyd and Geraldine Jero, and two brothers-in-law, John Lloyd Sr., and Arnold Jero.
Visitation for Mr. Galen Lloyd Comeaux will be on Sunday, July 13, 2008, from 11 am to 3:30 pm at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 3:30 pm on Sunday at the funeral home. The Rev. Alan Schaffmeyer will officiate and entombment will be in the Shrine of Rest Mausoleum. Members of Trier-Puddy American Legion Post #75 Firing Squad will conduct military rites.
