Gary John Dion, 80, died at the Fond du Lac County Health Care Center Sunday, May 14, 2006. He was born November 1, 1925, in Green Bay, the son of Roy and Mary Gary Dion. On Feb. 5, 1948, he married Mary Lou Mueller at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. She preceded him in death in August of 1974. Mr. Dion attended L.P. Goodrich High School and graduated early to join the U.S. Marine Corp. during World War II. He served in the Pacific with the 3rd Marine Division making 7 invasions. After service he attended Oshkosh State College for two years. Gary worked at Giddings and Lewis for twenty-five years retiring in 1975. He moved to Idaho and worked at Bucyrus Erie until 1976. He moved to Seattle, WA and worked at Star Machinery. He moved in 1982 to San Jose, CA and worked at FMC Corp. retiring in 1992. He was an avid sailing lover and enjoyed the outdoors. He was a member of the Fond du Lac Yacht Club for many years. Gunsmith was also one of his passions. He served as a School Board Member for James Otis School for many years. Survivors include his daughters, Nancy (Randy) Redlin, Denise (Robert) Hoepfner, and their children Ben and Ann, Karen Jo (John) Dobyns , and their children John (Rae Ann) and Julie all of Fond du Lac, Mary (King) DeSeve III , and their children Cassy and Stefanie of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, and one son Joseph (Deborah) Dion of Ripon; four sisters, Mary Jo Reinardy, Grace (Darryll) Mills, Barbara Faris, and Kathleen (James) LaVallee of Fond du Lac, nieces and nephews. His parents, his wife, one son, Greg, his sister Julie Kopecky, and two brothers-in-law, Dr. Charles Reinardy and Francis Faris, preceded him in death.
At Gary's requests there will be no visitation or funeral services. Private family services will be held at a later date. Cremation has taken place. Memorials appreciated to the American Cancer Society or Alzheimer's Research. "Our special thanks to all the staff at Harbor Haven for their outstanding care and compassion tp "Papa D" he was so luckly to have so many special angels." Uecker-Witt Funeral Home is serving the family.
