Genevieve H. Schmidt

Genevieve H. Schmidt, age 92, died Friday, July 18, 2015 at the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home, formally of 47 Amory Street. She was born on March 15, 1923 in the little town of Neda, to Robert and Hannah (Schluetter) Smith. On December 20, 1941 she married Alfred Schmidt. Genny and Al were married for seventy-two years, but knew each other as small children, because their families were friends and neighbors. They moved to Fond du Lac in 1947.



Genny worked at the Convent of The Holy Nativity for over forty years. Those Sisters became like extended family, to the day of her death. Genny loved her role as Granny, she loved baking cookies, pasty’s, and pies. Her apple pies were the best.



SURVIVORS: her daughter Marlene Furlong of Fond du Lac, Theodore (Debra) Schmidt of Sheboygan; six grandchildren, James Furlong of St. Francis, WI, Jeffrey Furlong of Fond du Lac, Rhonda Schmidt of Sheboygan, TJ (fiancé Heather) Schmidt of Sheboygan, Robert (Lori) Schmidt of Howards Grove, Andrew (Natalie) Schmidt of Ft. Knox, Kentucky; six great-grandchildren, Alex, Rebecca, Scott, Abigail, Gabriel, and Sophia. She is also survived by one sister, Lavern Sabel of Fond du Lac; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, six brother and sisters, nieces and nephews, and one son in law Gaile Furlong.



Private family services will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2015 at Church of Our Saviour, Fond du Lac. Entombment will follow at Shrine of Rest Mausoleum, Ledgeview Memorial Park.
