George Burkhardt

November 9, 1932 — December 4, 2011

George Burkhardt, 79 of Fond du Lac, was called by our Lord on December 4, 2011 at the St. Francis Home where he had been a resident for the past year. He was born in Fond du Lac onNovember 9, 1932 the son of Gustave and Alma Miller Burkhardt. On August 2, 1951 he married Audrey M.Willet at St. Joseph's Church, Fond du Lac. Audrey preceded him in death on March 22, 2010.He was a veteran of U.S. Army serving in Germany. After serving in the army George returned home and worked as a baker. He then took carpentry apprenticeship and worked the rest of his career in all phases of carpentry. His knowledge and skills were graciously shared with family and friends. George thoroughly enjoyed bird watching and was a longtime member of the Fond du Lac Bird Club. He was a life-long member of Holy Family Parish. George's passion was family gatherings and going to their cottage. He and his wife Audrey volunteered at Salvation Army and especially liked bell ringing at Christmas. In George's earlier years he enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing.SURVIVORS: George is survived by two daughters, Jane (fiancé Kurt) Knueppel and Mary (Mark) Leicht, both of Fond du Lac, a son Michael (Roxanne) Burkhardt, also of Fond du Lac, 9 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by two sisters, Beverly (Jim) Lepinski of Fond du Lac and Ann O'Malley, South Elgin, IL. Special friends, Joe and Sue Stoll and their children, Lisa and Scott of Fond du Lac and a sister-in-law, Dawn Burkhardt of Fond du Lac. George was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a son, Joseph, a sister Elaine Borst, and three brothers, Lawrence, Frank, and Ed.



VISITATION: Friends may call on Thursday, December 8, 2011 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Uecker-Witt Funeral Home and on Friday at the church from 9:00 AM until the time of services. FUNERAL: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 9, 2011 at 10:00 AM at Holy Family Parish- Sacred Heart Church.
