George E. Baenen, age 97, died Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home. He was born on November 13, 1914 to Edward and Emma (Paulson) Baenen on the family farm in Bay Settlement, just north of Green Bay. He attended Holy Cross School in Bay Settlement graduating on June 1, 1931 and at the age of sixteen began working at the Northland Hotel in Green Bay as a bus boy and later bartender. On June 14, 1940 he married Kathleen Salmon. She preceded him in death on October 14, 1997. George also worked at the ship yard in Sturgeon Bay for a year and then was part owner of J.J.'s Supper Club in Princeton for a short time. It was at this time that Norton's Supper Club in Green Lake was beginning their business and George was hired as their first bartender. He then moved to Fond du Lac and was hired by Giddings & Lewis where he worked in shipping and receiving until he retired in 1975. After retiring he worked part time as a security guard for Mercury Marine until 1990. During this time George also began his career as a volunteer. He always enjoyed woodworking, so when St. Agnes Hospital needed custom pieces to aid their patients with disabilities, he was glad to help them out. George also volunteered at Galloway House parking cars for special events. He was an avid fisherman and hunter for most of his life, belonging to various clubs and organizations, including the National Rifle Association, International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, life member of Fox Valley Gun Club, and a member of the Fox Valley Hunstmen and Fishermen's Club. George is survived by his two children, Jim (special friend Kay Lange) of Fontana, WI, and Jane (Dennis) Munro of Berlin, three grandchildren, Amy (Rudy) Limones of Delavan, WI, Christopher (Kathy) Tauscher of Port Barrington, IL, and Nicholas Munro of Oshkosh, six great-grandchildren, Austin and Kiana Schneider and Alex Limones of Delavan, twins, Michael and Amanda Tauscher of Port Barrington, IL, and Caden Munro of Oshkosh. He is also survived by three brothers, Benjamin John of Florida, Howard (Mary) and Wally both of Green Bay. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Kathleen Salmon, a grandson, Cameron Baenen, four sisters, Gladys Sampson, Frances Cashen, Christine and Mabel Baenen, three brothers, William, Robert, and infant brother Paul, sisters in law, Valerie, Betty, and Dorothy Baenen.
VISITATION: Sunday, April 1, 2012 from 2-4 P.M. at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, 524 N. Park Ave, Fond du Lac. FUNERAL: A Baha'i funeral service will be held Sunday, April 1, 2012 at 4:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
