After retiring he worked part time as a security guard for Mercury Marine until 1990. During this time George also began his career as a volunteer. He was an avid fisherman and hunter for most of his life, belonging to various clubs and organizations, including the National Rifle Association, International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, life member of Fox Valley Gun Club, and a member of the Fox Valley Hunstmen and Fishermen's Club.
