George W. Waehler, 94, of Fond du Lac, died Saturday, February 24, 2018 at St. Agnes Hospital. He was born George Washington Waehler on February 22, 1924 at home in Fall River, WI to Edward and Emma (Okrusch) Waehler. The family moved to Fond du Lac in 1929. George attended Fond du Lac schools and was a 1941 graduate of Fond du Lac High School and then attended Fond du Lac Vocational School. George married Elizabeth “Betty” Lotzer on October 16, 1948 in St. Mary’s Church rectory in Fond du Lac, WI. He was employed as vice president of both Westberg Buick and its successor, Dittrich Buick Inc. from 1945 until Dittrich Buick was sold in 1991. He was a member of Holy Family Parish, St. Mary’s Church and it Holy Name Society and active for many years in various lay ministries at the church. George was an Honorary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus and a former member of the Elks Men of Music. He was a volunteer at St. Agnes Hospital from 2000-2013 as well as St. Francis Nursing Home until 2016.
Survivors include his son, Stephen Waehler; his daughter, Barbara Kraft (special friend, Howard Floeter); granddaughter, Elizabeth “Libby” Kraft (special friend, Glen Karls) and grandson, Kristoffer Kraft (special friend Kathleen Oestreich). He is further survived by sisters-in-law, Arline Waehler and Irene Lotzer; brother-in-law, Robert “Nick” Lotzer; many nieces, nephews, and special friends. George was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Emma (Okrusch) Waehler; brothers, Harold, Watson, and Haydon; sister, Marjorie (Donald) Hitchcock; in-laws, Rita Waehler, Obert “Obie” and Helen Hoffman, William and Joanne Lotzer, Joseph and Rosemary Lotzer, John and Alice Coon, Kendall and Genevieve Wendt, Donald and Adiel Lotzer and Charlene Lotzer.
The visitation will be held from 9:30 – 11:30 AM on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at St. Mary’s Church. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 AM on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at St. Mary’s Church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers a memorial in George’s name will be established.
The family would like to thank the staff at SSM/St. Agnes Hospital ER, the compassion and care given by Dr. Marc Awada, Melanie Bloedorn APNP and the entire staff on 4 South SSM/St. Agnes Hopsital and the love and support of the staff at Hospice Home of Hope. To dad’s wonderful neighbors always looking out for him and his needs. To his friends at the Fond du Lac Senior Center, he enjoyed the time with you. To Dr. Wright, thank you for taking the time out of your busy day to stop in and give dad your best wishes. Thank you to dad’s “Volunteer family” at St. Agnes Hospital, he missed you as I know you missed him. To Chaplain Karen Kraus for taking the time for family prayers bedside. To our family and friends who sent dad 94th birthday cards, and wishes via text and email, and cake! made his last birthday so meaningful. Thank you for the continuous and endless love, prayers and support to all of us.
God blessed this world with this amazing man who loved and cared for his children, grandchildren, family and friends. To so many people he never knew, he made a difference with just his smile and kindness throughout his volunteer career and anywhere he was. Rest now, oh good and faithful servant of God, He has answered your prayers and taken you home. I was Blessed by God who sent me to you to be your daughter.
