Gerald F. Schmit

Gerald F. Schmit, 72, of Fond du Lac, died Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at his residence. He was born January 8, 1944 in Oconto, WI, the son of Howard and Lyllus Henne Schmit. Gerald was a U. S. veteran serving with the National Guards. On June 30, 1989 he married Janet Nagy in Fond du Lac. He worked at Waupun and Taycheedah Correctional Institutions for 32 years, retiring as Sergeant in 1997. He was a past member of the Fisherman’s Road Fishing Club and Eagles Aerie #270. Gerald enjoyed hunting and fishing.



He is survived by his wife, Janet; four sisters, Karen (Alan) Bruso of Peshtigo, Debbie (Vince) Crivello of Oconto, Carol (Bob) Seidl of Loveland, CO, and Janice Rantanen of Milwaukee; one brother, Steve Winans of Oconto; he was stepfather to, Edward (Nancy) Schlottke of Augusta, GA, Susan (Dave) Midkiff of Little Chute; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather who raised Gerald, Bud Winans; stepdaughter, Wendy Hall; and brother-in-law, Pat Rantanen.



The visitation will be held from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Estabrooks Cemetery.
