Gerald V. "Jerry" Liermann, 77, died Thursday, September 1, 2016 after a long and courageous battle against heart disease. His wry wit remained intact until nearly the end, despite immense pain. Jerry was born in Cedarburg and raised in West Bend before leaving for the US Navy at age 18.
He was stationed in Brunswick, Maine as a radio operator in a P2V Neptune, chasing submarines up and down the East Coast when he met the love of his life, Christine (nee Piper) Liermann, on a blind date. They married in 1961 and moved back to West Bend where they started a family. He began his manufacturing career at Mercury Marine where he was promoted in a few years and moved to Fond du Lac. He retired as a manufacturing engineer from Stroh Die Casting in Milwaukee in 2001.
He is survived by his wife Chris, son Steven Liermann (Michelle) of Winneconne and daughter Tracy Shilobrit (Mark) of Waukesha. His grandchildren will dearly miss their Papa, including Ty Liermann (Amanda) of Fond du Lac, and Savannah and Bryce Liermann of Winneconne. Jerry is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Sterling and Violet Liermann of Fond du Lac.
Jerry was a magnetic personality to whom friends and strangers alike were instantly drawn, especially little kids. He loved to make people smile by telling stories and cracking jokes, and was a gifted singer and carpenter. He enjoyed golfing, woodworking, ice fishing, snowmobiling, bowling and lots of travel.
