Gertrude M. Polzin, 76, formerly of 15 W. 12th Street, died Saturday, January 26, 2008, at All About Life Rehabilitation Center after nine months of care at the Hospice Home of Hope. She was born March 11, 1931, in Campbellsport, the daughter of Simon and Mary M. Moser Serwe. She married Robert Strean in 1949 and he preceded her in death on September 17, 1995. On October 30, 1976, she married Wilmer "Bill" Polzin at the First United Presbyterian Church. He preceded her in death on January 6, 2003. She was a member of Holy Family Parish and since 1980 assisted with the Bread and Cup Ministry at St. Louis Church. Mrs. Polzin was a member of the American Indian Council, Sioux Nation, and a 10-year member of the Native American Heritage Council. She was a graduate of Campbellsport High School and received her degree from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in Social Work, and was formerly employed by All About Life Rehabilitation Center for 18 years as a Senior Social Worker and Consultant. She enjoyed quilting, refurbishing furniture, crafts, and music.Surviving are five sons, Claude (Nancy) Strean and their children, Julie Wnek, Tamara, Travis, and Jason of Fond du Lac, Gregory (Julie) Strean and their children, Heather, Ducoty, Holly, and Heidi of Van Dyne, Timothy (Kathy) Strean and their children Tony and Ryan, of Fond du Lac, Daniel (Laurie) Strean and their children Joshua and Nicole of Rosendale, and Todd Strean and his children Jeremiah, Brandon, and Jordon of Fond du Lac; a daughter, Deborah (Joe) Dion and their children Michael Close, Kelle Close, and Jesse Close of Ripon, and 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bernice Timler of Wautoma, and Jane Serwe of Fond du Lac, and one brother, Raymond (Mary Beth) Serwe of Fond du Lac. She is further survived by two brothers-in-law, Eugene (Marge) Polzin of McLean, VA, and Floyd (Sharon) Polzin of Hales Corners, and two sisters-in-law, Diane (Jim) Raube of Brownsville, and Carol (Jack) Daniels of West Bend, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends. Also surviving are three stepchildren, Jeffrey Traintime, Cherry Polzin, and Lori Hefty. Preceding her in death were her parents, both husbands, one brother, Jim, and three sisters, Shirley Pennington, Imelda "Tiny" Kissinger, and Mildred Schoessow.



Visitation for Mrs. Gertrude M. Polzin will be on Tuesday, January 29, 2008, from 4 to 6 pm at Holy Family Church, 271 4th Street Way. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 6 pm at the church on Tuesday. Rev. Victor Capriolo will officiate and inurnment will be in the Chapel of The Risen Christ Mausoleum, Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family. Cremation has taken place. Uecker-Witt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
