Gilbert "Gib" Schroeder, 89, of 698 E. 2nd Street, died Tuesday, September 22, 2009, at St. Agnes Hospital. He was born February 5, 1920, in Fond du Lac, the son of Harold and Mabel McCullen Schroeder. On January 9, 1943, he married Barbara M. Endres at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Madison. She preceded him in death on April 30, 2006. Mr. Schroeder was a member of Holy Family Parish attending Sacred Heart Church. He was formerly employed by Infant Socks, Model Laundry, and the City of Fond du Lac, where he retired in 1982. During his retirement, he enjoyed helping out at his son's store, Stop N Shop. He was a well-known trumpet player, performing with the Ron Harvey Orchestra, Herb Breitzmann, Bibs DeRusha, and the Fond du Lac Military Band. In his later years, Gib was a fixture at the lunch counter of Schreiner's Restaurant. Surviving are four sons, Richard (Sharon) Schroeder of Eldorado, James (Cathy) Schroeder of Fond du Lac, and Donald (Susan) Schroeder and David (Christy) Schroeder, all of Richmond, TX. He is further survived by nine grandchildren, Joe Schroeder, Chris Schroeder, Mike (Amy) Schroeder, Jill Schroeder, Matt (Robin) Schroeder, Julie (Mac) Kelem, Kim (Chris) Moayedi, Nick (Lara) Schroeder, and Jennifer Schroeder, and five great-grandchildren, Rylee, Emily, Evan, Madeline, Tess, and Eli. He is further survived by two nieces, Phyllis Lewis and Barbara Endres, both of Madison, and special friends, Alyce Manthey of Fond du Lac, and Alice Brausen of Madison. His parents, and his wife preceded him in death.
Private family services will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2009, at the Chapel of the Risen Christ Mausoleum in Calvary Cemetery. The Rev.
