Gilbert M. "Gib" Schaefer

January 21, 1924 — October 16, 2011

Gilbert "Gib" M. Schaefer, age 87, died Sunday, October 16, 2011 at Villa Loretto Nursing Home in Mt. Calvary. He was born on January 21, 1924, in Marytown, the son of Joseph and Anna (Schoenborn) Schaefer. He served in the United States Army during World War II, and received honorable discharge on January 8, 1946. On October 11, 1947 he married Virginia Richter. "Gib" worked at Brenner Tank until retirement. They were longtime members of Presentation Church in North Fond du Lac and recently members of Holy Family Parish. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council #664. "Gib" was very active in many volunteer organizations, including St. Vincent de Paul and Habitat for Humanity. He was also a longtime member of the Equitable Reserve Association. SURVIVORS: his wife, Virginia, four children, James (Audrey) Schaefer of Oakfield, Ronald (Jennifer) Schaefer of Fond du Lac, Mary Schaefer of Waupun, Ann (D.J.) Faul of Fond du Lac, eleven grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters, Eddie (Josie) Schaefer of School Hill, Esther (Bob) Schad of Chilton, Erma Ramminger of New Holstein, Helen Schad of School Hill, sisters in law, Helen Richter and Alice Wirtz, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Mark Schaefer, two brothers, Ervin and Wilfred, brothers in law and sisters in law, Ambrose Ramminger, Frank Schad, Vernon Richer, Rudolph Wirtz.



VISITATION: Wednesday, October 19, 2011 from 10:00 A.M. to 12 noon at Holy Family Church, 271 4th St. Way, Fond du Lac, WI. FUNERAL: Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at 12 noon at Holy Family Church. Entombment will follow at Chapel of the Risen Christ Mausoleum, Calvary Cemetery.
