Gilbert Vander Galien

June 23, 1933 — April 7, 2016

Gilbert Vander Galien, 82, of Lexington, SC, previously of Eldorado, died Thursday, April 7, 2016, at Agape Hospice Center, Lexington, SC. He was born on June 23, 1933, the son of Willard and Jesse (Stiemsma) Vander Galien of Friesland, WI. He married Evelyn Elgersma November 16, 1955 at the Reformed Church of Friesland. They had a large family of 9 children. She preceded him in death in 1993 having been married for 37 years. He married Texie Shultz on September 15, 2001 in Gaston, SC.



Gilbert served his country as a Military Police Officer in the U.S. Army for two years. He kept busy his entire life until physical challenges slowed him down. His career was as a systems analyst, which he performed at various businesses including AC Neilson, Giddings and Lewis, Winnebago County and Cap Gemini. He was an assessor for three townships for 30 years.

Gilbert enjoyed working on his farm where he raised his family in the town of Eldorado.



Gilbert loved to travel and visited many parts of the world. He above all was a man of faith. He supported many ministries and missions, was a member of the Gilbert Church of God, Gilbert, SC, a former member of Lighthouse Christian Church, Fond du Lac, and was on the Board of Elders for Morris Cerullo World Evangelism.



He is survived by many loved ones, his wife, Texie of Lexington, SC; his sons, Randy (Jackie) of Fond du Lac, Robert of Oshkosh, Kevin (Amy) of Waukesha and daughters, Lynda (Bill) Zeleske of Fond du Lac, Sandra (Brad) Toll of Green Bay, Patti (Tony) Schumacher of Rosendale, and Karen Vander Galien of Fond du Lac; 16 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; his brothers, Harold (Angie) of Dade City, FL, Roy (Linda) of Ada, MI, Warren (Mitzi) of Hayward, CA, and sisters, Norma (Tom) Meyer of Denver, CO, Sue (Craig) Pihl of Hodsonville, MI, Beatrice (Ken) Smits of Troy, MI, Erma (Don) Kindschuh of Waupun, and Junice (Rich) Greenfield of Markesan and many nieces and nephews.



He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Evelyn; two sons, Jeffrey and Glenn; and a brother, Bill.



Funeral services for Gilbert Vander Galien will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Lighthouse Christian Church, 401 S National Ave, Fond du Lac, WI with Rev. Richard Balken officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Lighthouse Christian Church. Burial will follow in Rosendale Cemetery.
