GLENN ARTHUR VAN NORMAN



On Thursday, December 18, 2014, surrounded by his loving family, Glenn Arthur Van Norman of Fond du Lac completed his life’s journey of 67 years. Glenn will be dearly missed by Carol, his wife of 46 years; his sons, Chad, Jason, and Ryan; his grandson, Ryan II; aunt, Leona Kowalske; sister-in-law, Mary (William) Musack; nephews, Darryl (Shari) Van Norman and Scott Van Norman; nieces, Lynan (David) Wiese and Lisa Coyne; and cousins.



The youngest son of Claude and Emma (Ring) Van Norman, Glenn was born on June 17, 1947 in Juneau, WI and was raised with brothers, Gordon and Gary. In 1966 Glenn graduated from Horace Mann High School in North Fond du Lac and proudly served in the U.S. Army Infantry from 1966 to 1968, stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado. Glenn married his high school sweetheart and best friend, Carol Nielsen on June 8, 1968 at Church of Peace in Fond du Lac, WI.



Glenn was employed as a wood pattern maker at Mercury Marine in Fond du Lac and model maker in Big Bend. Glenn and Carol owned and operated Van’s Cleaning Service and the Village Vault in North Fond du Lac. As a PCT II, Glenn enjoyed getting up every morning to go to work at the Wisconsin Resource Center in Oshkosh, WI.



Scouting was an ongoing program that Glenn volunteered his time and talent starting as a Den Leader, Webelos Leader, Committee Member, and Assistant Cubmaster when his boys joined North Fond du Lac Cub Scout Pack 3747. They advanced to Boy Scouting and Glenn became a Scoutmaster and Committee Member with Fond du Lac Sacred Heart Troop 714 and later with the North Fond du Lac Troop 705. For many years Glenn continued serving the BSA Bay Lakes Area Council and Flyway District 9 with Adult Leader Training and activities. Glenn received the District Award of Merit, Silver Beaver Award, and Wood Badge Beads.



Glenn’s love of the outdoors kept him seasonally in the woods trapping and hunting or on the lake fishing with a rod or a tip-up. He was a regular volunteer at the Horicon National Wildlife Refuge. Glenn was a lifetime member of the Lomira Sportsmen’s Club, member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Eagles Anglers, and Winnebagoland Conservation Alliance.



After retirement he continued to design and make fine crafted wood pieces, worked on that “honey do” list around the house, tended the garden and enjoyed many backyard evening campfires with his family.



Glenn will be remembered for his never ending repertoire of jokes and stories. Every time he would see his friends and family he had a new joke to tell. He once told Carol that when he retired that he wanted to be a greeter at Wal-Mart so he could tell jokes to everyone that came there, but they probably would fire him because the line outside would be so long that no one would be in the store shopping.



Throughout his life, Glenn unselfishly gave so much of himself to his family, friends and others. He would drop everything he was doing to help them out. Glenn was the hardest working man you would ever know. Everyone who knew him thought very highly of him. He will be greatly missed by all.



When the Lord saw that his loving and kind heart was tired, He took his hand for the journey and led him home to Eternal Life where he was greeted by his parents, brothers and sister-in-law, Karen Van Norman.



The family extends a sincere thank you to the St. Agnes ICU doctors, staff, clergy and pastors Jim Martin and Jenny Dawson for the care Glenn received prior to, throughout and the days following his heart surgery.



The visitation will be held Monday, December 22, 2014 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home and again on Tuesday from 9:00 – 11:00 am at the church.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at 11:00 am at Church of Peace with Revs. Jennifer C. M. Dawson and James F. D. Martin officiating. Cremation will follow the traditional services.
