Gloria M. Van Deslunt, 88, of Fond du Lac, went to be with her Heavenly Father and into the arms of her beloved husband, Eugene, on December 7, 2014, at the Hospice Home of Hope. She was born October 30, 1926, in Fond du Lac, the daughter of Claude M. and Harriet Everling Giebel. Gloria was a 1944 graduate of Fond du Lac High School. She married Eugene G. Van Deslunt at Immanuel Trinity Lutheran Church on June 22, 1946 with the Rev. John H. Becker officiating. He preceded her in death on August 21, 2013. Gloria was a homemaker. She was a past PTA president at Rosenow School, and a Cub Scout Den Mother. She worked at the election polls for 45 years representing the Democratic Party, served on the Better Films Council, and was involved with Community Theater for many years. Gloria was an active member of Pilgrim United Church of Christ for over 40 years where she taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School for 13 years. She served on the Christian Education and Christian Outreach Committee, and on the church council for one year. Gloria loved camping, reading, knitting, swimming, and taking walks. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family, her grandchildren, and especially her great-grandchildren. They were the joy of her life.
Surviving is a daughter, Gayle (John) Mandel of Fond du Lac, three sons, Gary (Jodi Soufel) Van Deslunt of Greenville, WI, Greg (Peggie) Van Deslunt of Canon City, CO, and Garth (Nancy) Van Deslunt of Mukwonago, four grandchildren, Heather, Patrick, Tammy, and Elizabeth, and five great-grandchildren, Hannah, Lukas, Tyler, Kayla, and Justin. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a grandson, Michael, a great-grandson, Nicholas, and a brother, Claude Giebel, Jr.
Visitation for Gloria M. Van Deslunt will be on Thursday, December 11, 2014, from 11 AM to 1 PM at Pilgrim United Church of Christ, 535 Stow Street, Fond du Lac. Funeral services will be at 1 PM at the church on Thursday. The Rev. Ted Drewsen will officiate and entombment will follow in the Shrine of Rest Mausoleum, Ledgeview Memorial Park Cemetery.
