Gordon A. Porter, 77, of 486 E. McWilliams Street, went to Heaven on Monday, December 13, 2010, at the Hospice Home of Hope. He was born July 13, 1933, the son of Lloyd and Stella Thuermer Porter. He was a 1951 graduate of Fond du Lac High School and served in the US Army from 1954 to 1956. On September 12, 1953, he married Geraldine "Gerry" Anna Sass at the Church of Peace. Gordon was formerly employed at Mercury Marine for 35 ½ years, retiring in 1998. Prior to this he worked at Quic-Frez. He loved camping, fishing, playing cards, his HO model trains, and spending time with his family. Fifty-seven wonderful years of marriage gave him and his wife eight children; five girls, Deborah (George) Rhoades of Fond du Lac, Linda (Roy) Strutz of Green Lake, Sharon (Jim) Joy, Marie (David) Lee, and Lisa (Steve) Gehde, all of Fond du Lac, three sons, David (Mary) Porter, Robert (Special Friend Bonnie) Porter, and Jason (Jennie) Porter, all of Fond du Lac, 19 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren, and a seventh great-grandson due on Tuesday, December 21st. He is further survived by a sister, Jean Hoffman of Fond du Lac, a brother, Ken Porter of Fond du Lac, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, his stepfather, George Wolf, his father and mother-in-law, William and Mary Sass, a son-in-law, John Sarazen, four grandchildren, and his dog, "Ginger."
Visitation for Gordon A. Porter will be on Friday, December 17, 2010, from 4 to 8 PM at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, and from 9 to 10 AM on Saturday, December 18th. Funeral services will be at 10 AM on Saturday at the funeral home. The Rev. Robert Rosenberg will officiate and burial will be in Estabrooks Cemetery.
