Gregory “Gbeau” L. Beau, 69 of Fond du Lac, died Sunday, October 3, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his wife and children. He was born March 4, 1952 in Fond du Lac, the son of Leo and Orlena (Mengel) Beau. On September 23, 2006 he married Maureen E. McCullough in Fond du Lac. Greg worked for Canadian National Railway for 38 years, retiring as Yard Foreman in 2012. Greg was an avid softball player in St. Peter and Fond du Lac and passed on his love of the game by coaching his sons’ little league and basketball teams. He then coached the Freshman girls basketball team at St. Mary Springs High School for many years. He loved people and he loved the competition. You could always find Greg hanging at the ball diamond mentoring, cheering on his boys and grandkids for many years following.
He was a member of the NRA and enjoyed his trips turkey hunting. From fishing and gardening to feeding his birds, Greg loved the outdoors. He was always up for a good game of poker with his buddies or playing cribbage with his family. His love for music was contagious, and he especially shared it with his wife and daughter at live concerts. Wisconsin born and raised, Greg loved a good meal and a brandy old fashioned, around a dinner table or campfire, sharing stories, laughing and spending time with those he loved. Perhaps his most endearing quality was the way he lit up a room with his witty sense of humor. G was known for his never-ending repertoire of ‘dad’ jokes. His sense of humor drew you in and connected people. Even at the cancer center during treatments or visiting his dental office, he was prepared to light up the room with a joke. You can be certain that if Greg was around, laughter filled the air.
He is survived by his wife, Maureen McCullough; three children, Nicole (Paul) Batchelder of Oakfield, Charles (Megan Kok) Beau of Scottsdale, AZ, and Mitchell Beau of Oakfield; step children, Stefanie (Travis) Jones and Max (Sarah) Schumacher, all of Cottage Grove; grandchildren, Ethan and Leyton Batchelder, Henry, Mac, and Teagan Jones, Conor, Caden, and Clara Schumacher; two sisters, Jean (Robin Sunday) Beau and Nettie (Steve) Schmitz; sister-in-law, Mary Beau; special uncle, Leroy Mengel; nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He was
preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Elliot Batchelder; and brother, John Beau.
Thank you to Agnesian and Froedtert Cancer Centers and Heartland Hospice for their efforts and dedication. And a special thanks to his wife, Maureen, the ultimate partner-in-crime and caretaker.
The visitation will be held Saturday, October 9, 2021 from 12:00 – 3:00 PM at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. The memorial service will follow on Saturday at 3:00 PM at the funeral home. Cremation has taken place.
