Harold A. Petrie

November 16, 1932 — June 25, 2010

Harold A. Petrie, 77, of 414 Indiana Avenue, North Fond du Lac, passed away peacefully Friday, June 25, 2010 at Hospice Home of Hope. He and his wife of 57 years have made their home at the above address all of their married life, but now Harold moves on to a new home, Heaven. He was born November 16, 1932 in Mount Calvary, the son of Alfred and Acella Rieder Petrie. On November 27, 1952 he married Alice M. Buechel at Holy Trinity Church, Jericho. In the 77 years Harold spent on Earth, all who knew him know that he did not waste a minute of it. He was consistently a diligent man, with a work ethic as large as his heart. In his life, Harold occupied many jobs in the Fond du Lac area. He started with the Soo Line Railroad, North Fond du Lac, then he worked for Giddings and Lewis and retired from the Fond du Lac County Highway Department in 2005. His part time jobs included many years at Woodall Lumber and Fond du Lac County Fair where he operated trucks and equipment. Upon retirement, Harold worked part time at the Fond du Lac County Airport. Now, Harold has only one last job to do, to be an Angel in Heaven, because we all know that he has definitely earned his wings. He had a wonderful life. Harold was always a hard worker and a compassionate hand to everyone he touched. He was an active member of the North Fond du Lac Senior Center, started the Presentation Local Chapter of the St. Vincent's DePaul in 1964, the Men's Club at church, St. Joseph's Society, Knight's of Columbus and the senior advisory group for North Fond du Lac. Often Harold would donate 18 to 24 hours weekly to these numerous programs. One committee Harold was on for the village board was the Mosher Creek Watershed Steering Committee. He never hesitated to do anything for anyone at any time. Harold was the last remaining original crew member of the Soo Line Railroad, who moved the locomotive Engine No. 2714 to the Lakeside Park entrance in 1955. He also enjoyed gardening and playing sheepshead.
