Harold F. "Danny" La Shay

Harold F. "Danny" La Shay, 84, formerly of Fond du Lac, and currently a resident of N9124 Beaver Lane, Neshkoro, died Monday, February 02, 2009, at Berlin Memorial Hospital in Berlin. He was born October 18, 1924, in Oconto Falls, the son of Oren and Mary Ann Wilson La Shay. On September 10, 1949, he married Charmaine L. Shaw at Covenant United Methodist Church. He attended Fond du Lac High School until his entrance into the Army Air Force on November 20, 1942 until February 9, 1946 where he served with the 9th Air Force in the Pacific Theatre. Danny was a member of Covenant United Methodist Church. His memberships included the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #270, Bohlman-Grimes VFW Post #1904, and Neshkoro VFW Post 10892, for the past 40 years. He was a Red Cross and King Veterans Home volunteer. He served as business manager of Laborer's Local 1086 for 30 years as he was a labor leader for most of his life. He was instrumental in forming Wisconsin laborers Health and Pension funds, and the Wisconsin Laborers Training School and serving as an officer in some for many years. He served on the advisory board for the University of Wisconsin-Fond du Lac Foundation for 25 years, and the Salvation Army Board for 28 years.He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Charmaine, eight Godchildren, Rose Phillips, David O. (Shirley) La Shay, Jr., Mary Jane (Jerome) Boehlen, Cheryl Abitz, Shane Abitz, Sara Krueger (Keith) Zuengler, Anthony O. La Shay, and Kent Thorpe, two brothers-in-law, Sam (Iona) Shaw and Andrew Portman, both of Fond du Lac, three sisters-in-law, Malita Patchett and Gert La Shay, both of Fond du Lac, and Blossom La Shay of Baraboo, WI, nieces, nephews, three honorary grandchildren, Robert, William, and Lillian Zuengler, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, David O. La Shay, Sr., Arthur, Manley "Shorty", Ervin "Finny" and George La Shay, two sisters, Katherine Portman and Linda Lou Giebel, and a brother-in-law, Louis Patchett.



Visitation for Mr. Harold F. "Danny" La Shay will be on Wednesday, February 4, 2009, from 4 to 8 pm at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, and from 9:30 to 10:30 am on Thursday, February 5, 2009, at Covenant United Methodist Church, 20 N. Marr Street, Fond du Lac. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Thursday at the church. The Rev. Michael Morning will officiate and burial will be in Estabrooks Cemetery.
